Style Stalking @ Indian Express ADDA

I had gone to Express ADDA, hosted by The Indian Express which is basically an informal forum to discuss various topics, with people who are the experts! I had gone to the one where they hosted Tarun Tahiliani, Suneet Varma, Anna Bredmeyer (India`s first supermodel & Miss India 1975),Madhu Jain and Shefalee Vasudev (assosicate editor) who spoke about Indian Fashion and its MANY  nuances.

The topic at hand was quite vast, and it is practically impossible to discuss Indian Fashion this way, but they sure did try to touch upon each topic - from models to textiles to whether or not indian designers need bollywood and how it effects their sponsors and advertisers.

Sonia Gandhi`s Neon Sari

Neon Sonia

While the whole nation and specially the news channels are going crazy over the presidential race, I couldn`t help but notice the sari Sonia Gandhi wore, the day she announced Pranab Mukherjee as the candidate.

It was a simple sari. Nothing really. Just a crisp cotton sari. What Mrs Gandhi usually wears.

What caught my attention was that it was Neon. And not just that, she had colour blocked it with a neon pink blouse!

Surprisingly I couldn`t find any good quality pictures of this, and had to take video grabs.
Apologies for the bad pictures.

Sonia Gandhi has always been impeccably dressed in  Paithani sarees, Cotton, khadi and handloom silks with various weaves. She may not be Indian, but indian women sure can learn a thing or two about 'indian fashion' and textiles from this woman.

Indian fashion is NOT about synthetic embellished sarees, its about the textiles and weaves and handloom. That`s where it originated from. Even though we have moved towards the bling, I don`t think enough appreciation is given to Indian textiles, atleast in the mass markets.

Even though, one could probably talk about each and every saree she wears, I particularly liked this one for its brightness, and the fact that 'neon' is so in these days. I am quite sure she doesnt really care about the trends, but I thought it was cute.

Also it was so refreshing to the eyes, after the craziness of the president nominations!
I couldnt give a crap about the announcement but I was just happy to see her in this :)

While researching this post, I realized that no one had actually written a post about her sarees. Which I found really odd - and sad, considering she must have an enviable collection.
Maybe I couldn`t find anything. But there were very few pictures as well.

On her wedding, Sonia wore a Sari which was made from the cotton Nehru spun while he was in prison. Which Indira Gandhi had also worn on her wedding day.

Initially she had admitted that she felt weird in sarees - a mini skirt of hers (she`s italian,do keep that in mind!!) caused quite a stir here in india. Indira Gandhi is the one who gave her this make over, and now she`s quite the queen of indian textile.

I don`t know what to say about her politics, her history or where she`s from. But if you think of someone who REALLY defines Indian textiles, takes them seriously and promotes them - for me it would be her.

Thoughts?

Pineapple Dance Wear

Guide to buying dance wear

With the meteoric rise in popularity of dance – thanks to heavy exposure on shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, Pineapple Studios and Britain’s Got Talent – there has never been a better time to get involved and dust off those ballet pumps.

If you’re struggling to work out what clothes you’ll need to embrace this trend, read on for a handy guide to dance wear and its accompanying fashions.

Buying dance shoes

A good pair of dance shoes can make dancing much more pleasurable, whilst a pair of poorly fitting shoes will really impair your ability and comfort. When looking for a pair of dance shoes, make sure that they allow you to spin and pivot. It is incredibly important that they offer you the freedom you need to execute your full range of movement.

However, this freedom also needs to be countered by a shoe that doesn’t slip too easily – something which could result in nasty falls or injuries This will often mean you need to purchase leather or suede soled shoes. Don’t skimp on a pair of dance shoes as they are usually the most important buy you will make.

Tracksuits

Buying tracksuit bottoms that allow a full range of movement and keep you cool whilst dancing is a must. Elastic waistbands and ankles will keep them in position, no matter what moves you are attempting, and will make them easy to remove if necessary. If you’re looking for a perfect example of a well-designed, stylish tracksuit bottom, take a look at the range of Pineapple dance wear, available online.

Tights

Dance tights can prove to be a little tougher to buy than many other items of dance wear. You’re looking for a pair that are durable and will last you a decent amount of time. This can be difficult as there is a fair amount of wear and tear to be expected in such a physically strenuous activity. Although quality is important, dance tights will always need regular replacement so don’t go overboard by buying a ridiculously expensive pair.

Look for a pair of tights that will also keep you warm. There’s nothing worse than taking the time to complete all your stretching and warm-up exercises, only to get too cold again in the delay before you start dancing.

A Chanel 2.55 Cake And New....

It was my birthday last tuesday, and my sneaky mother somehow knew that I wanted an extravagant quirky cake!

I wish I had taken better, clearer and calmer pictures. I say calmer cos when it came out all my aunts and uncles + grand uncle and aunts were wayyyy too hyper about it. Everyone was like WTF, literally (okay the old people equivalent of it)

They were just so damn excited. Everyone wanted to touch it and and my mother was swatting their hands away!

It was a chocolate truffle bag :)
With Black marzipan covering, made to look like leather.

Since the marzipan made it so heavy, the poor fellow fell on its face while coming to my house. Poor guy!

And then people just wanted to eat it. No one gave the little guy any time, to be admired.
Sad.

One person thought I got the actual chanel bag as a gift, and it`s kept on the table. Haha I would trade all the cakes for that! I wish.

I got it from a bakery called Orange Peel in Sunder Nagar,Delhi

And the 'New' thing is ....

I am an official site now! Yay!

I gifted myself a domain for my 22nd birthday. How cool am I?
I also have a new email address, which sounds more official as compared to stylish.rammblings@gmail.com
which also has a spelling mistake.
Haha. Silly past me.

Photobucket

So all this is very exciting for me. And more exciting news coming up
So I am like that ^ basically! :)
